PACE Leading Fall 2022

Overview

Throughout my first two semesters of college, I had a PACE Leader who facilitated weekly Breakout Groups, aided me through several required introduction to business classes, and encouraged me to get involved. This person was instrumental in paving the path of my first year in college and beyond. She is a dedicated worker and heavily impacted my life to the point where I wanted to follow in her footsteps and PACE Lead for other students.

PACE stands for Professionalism, Academics, Character, and Engagement, all attributes a PACE Leader must exemplify. Within this role, I mentored transfer students into the College of Business by facilitating weekly recitations for their semester-long project, the Big Idea Project, and other various assignments. This project consists of developing a business plan for an innovative idea and presenting a pitch for the idea to the class. Additionally, students must complete a paper detailing their business description, a market analysis, management, finances/ accounting, and a SWOT analysis. As their leader, I am the point of contact for any questions or concerns about the project or the class itself.

From this experience, I learned how important it was to just be a friendly face for my students and someone they can rely on if needed. With the hustle and bustle of college, it is often easy to feel alone, but by simply checking in with them, I was able to show that someone cared for their wellbeing. This role was impactful because I was able to be on the other side of the podium and share my experiences in hopes of inspiring others the way my PACE Leader did for me.
