United Arab Emirates

Overview

As soon as I learned about the study abroad trip led by faculty to the United Arab Emirates, I knew I had to be a part of it. It is a course that focuses on management and is taken throughout the semester. After meeting every week to delve into the remarkable 60-year transformation of the United Arab Emirates from being without modern technology to being one of the most futuristic countries in the world, we prepared for what was the trip of a lifetime.

During our travels, we stayed in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Al Ain which was an oasis back then. From visiting the tallest building in the world to meeting and touring the Palm Jumeirah with the man who oversaw the man-made islands himself, the trip was unforgettable. We were able to visit sustainable cities that focus on being carbon neutral, companies that are the future of the nation, a solar panel park, and even a Falcon hospital. I personally loved visiting the souks which are similar to markets where there were spices, perfumes, scarves, gold, and so much more. A surreal moment was when we took a desert safari and rode over hills of sand before arriving at a camp where we rode camels and sand sledded. Beyond tourist attractions, we got to immerse ourselves in a culture that many were not too familiar with. The group had a traditional meal with an Emirati where we got to ask many questions, and we also visited the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque which was absolutely beautiful.

This trip was so eye-opening to a different part of the world. I learned so much from being here and absolutely fell in love with the country. From the people to the culture, the UAE is such a unique place.
